Tracking Thermal Analysis Findings Over Time on the Digital Twin

Thermal Analysis and Digital Twin

Thermal analysis and the digital twin are complementary parts of Asset Intelligence, but they perform different jobs. Thermal analysis evaluates imagery collected during a specific thermal scan. The digital twin maintains the identity and location structure of the plant's assets. Once the analysis findings are mapped to the relevant modules in that structure, they become a historical record that can be compared with later scans.

Two distinct processes, one connected record

The thermal workflow begins with field data collection. Thermal imagery is captured under defined conditions and then analyzed to classify supported findings such as hotspot, bypass diode activation, PID pattern, and string or module open circuit. This stage produces a set of thermal analysis findings ready to be linked to modules and positions. The digital twin stage begins when those findings are mapped to the asset record.

The role of the digital twin in the thermal analysis workflow

The digital twin carries the plant's asset model: module identity, coordinates, physical position, and existing record history. Once thermal analysis is completed in its own workflow, each finding is mapped to the relevant module record in the digital twin. The observation therefore becomes attached to a specific asset, location, and scan date instead of remaining an isolated image file.

How historical comparison is created

When a new thermal scan is completed, the workflow runs again: imagery is collected, analyzed, and mapped to the relevant assets in the digital twin. Records accumulated on the same module and coordinate can show whether a supported pattern continues, is no longer recorded, or appears for the first time. The comparison describes change without predicting root cause or future outcome.

What this gives the operations team

This structure reduces the need to match separate scan folders manually. Operations teams can review thermal analysis results alongside the module's digital record and earlier scans. Engineering interpretation, maintenance priority, and field action remain with the teams responsible for the plant; eyerod keeps the findings positioned, traceable, and comparable.
